Graduated with honors from the N. Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad School of Music, clarinet class, graduated with honors from the Leningrad Theater Institute (Faculty of Dramatic Art, workshop of G.A. Tovstonogov and A.I. Katsman). On television since 1996. As a journalist, he completed an internship in the UK.
From 2003 to 2006, he was the head of of the information broadcasting service of the STS-Petersburg TV company. Supervised the “Details” program. Acted in more than 30 films, including “Sergei Prokofiev” (Germany), “Pushkin. The Last Duel”, “Detective of the St. Petersburg Police ”, “Young Catherine” (Great Britain), “Russian Ark” ,“The End of a Beautiful Epoch”.
Since 2006, he has been a permanent host of the authorial program “Main Role” on the “Culture” channel. In 2008 he organized the Golden Harp International Music Competition and Festival. Since then, the Competition has been held every three years at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. Such stars as Alexander Knyazev, Liana Isakadze, Vasily Gerello, William Bennett, Philippe Perlo, Wayne Escoferry, Maxim Shostakovich took part in the Golden Harp project. Participants from 21 countries came to the Golden Harp.
Since 2014, he has been the curator of the All-Russian Music Competition established by the Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. Yulian Makarov, as the head of ANO "Classical Music", produces and organizes concerts of different genres and charity events. Permanent presenter of the main Russian musical events in the field of classical music. Over the years of his work on the Kultura TV channel, he interviewed more than a thousand famous people of Russia and the world.
