Estonia The name of conductor Christian Jarvi is now synonymous with artistic and cultural diversity. He "gained a reputation as one of the most inventive and creative musicians on the academic stage"(Reuters). He is described as" the archetype of the artist of the XXI century","a musician whose work knows no boundaries". An internationally recognized Maestro, today he continues to embody on the classical stage his original, innovative projects, each of which, according to critics, becomes an experience that can "revive interest in life" ("Herald Scotland"). The new York times wrote of yarvi that his interpretations felt "a powerful energy, like that of the resurrected Leonard Bernstein."



Christian Jarvi was born in 1972 in Estonia to the family of the outstanding conductor Neeme Jarvi. In 1980, he moved with his family to the United States. He graduated from the Manhattan school of music as a pianist, then studied conducting at the University of Michigan under Kenneth Kisler.

From 1998 to 2001, Jarvi worked as an assistant to ESA-Pekka Salonen at the Los Angeles Philharmonic. From 2001 to 2004, he served as chief conductor of the Norrland Opera and the Northern Symphony orchestra (Sweden), and from 2004 to 2009 he directed the Vienna Tonkunstler orchestra.

Currently, Christian yarvi works with several teams at once. He is the music Director of the festival orchestra in Gstaad (Switzerland), the founder and conductor of the classic hip-hop jazz group Absolute Ensemble in new York. Since 2012, Jarvi has led the oldest radio orchestra in Europe — the Leipzig radio Symphony orchestra. A passionate educator by nature, in 2008 he became one of the founders and music Director of the Baltic youth Philharmonic orchestra, which is called the "cornerstone" of music education in the Baltic region. With this group, which unites young musicians from Germany, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Norway, Russia, Finland, Sweden and Estonia, the Maestro has toured Russia many times.

Christian Jarvi is extremely sought after as a guest conductor. He has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra, London Symphony orchestra, the National orchestra of France, Orchestra de Paris, orchestra of the Academy Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Dresden Staatskapelle, the Leipzig Gewandhaus orchestra, the orchestra of the Bavarian radio and Radio Frankfurt of Birmingham Symphony orchestra, the National Symphony orchestra USA (WA), the orchestra of Minnesota, and the NHK Symphony orchestra (Tokyo), the Sydney Symphony orchestra, the Chamber orchestra of Lausanne, and worked with the youth orchestras of Japan, Norway and Germany.

Christian Jarvi's discography includes several dozen albums: from soundtracks to Hollywood movies (including "Cloud Atlas" and "the Hunger games") to the Kristjan Jarvi Sound Project series on the French label Naive Classique. This series characterizes yarvi as a conductor with an unmistakable taste and a fresh look at the old, using concepts and approaches that expand the boundaries of classical music. This project, which started in 2014, features all the groups led by the conductor.

Many of Christian yarvi's albums recorded on Sony and Chandos have been awarded prestigious awards. The latest CD, called Passacaglia (Sony Classical), was produced in collaboration with Arvo Pärt and is dedicated to the composer's 80th birthday. This disc was included in a series of recordings Of Tchaikovsky's music for the theater (previously, a recording of music for the play "snow maiden" by A. Ostrovsky was released, discs with music from the ballets "Sleeping beauty" and "the Nutcracker"are planned).

Christian Jarvi collaborates with many of the most creative artists of our time, including filmmakers Tom tykver and the Wachowski sisters, composers and performers Arvo pärt, Steve Reich, tan Dun, Gia Kancheli, Heinz Karl Gruber, John Adams, ESA-Pekka Salonen, Rene Fleming, Joe Zawinul, benny Andersson, Goran Bregovich, Max Richter, Hauschka (Volker Bertelmann), Tim garland, Daniel Schneider, James McMillan, dafer Youssef, Anushka Shankar, Nitin sohni, Paquito d'rivera, eitetsu haiyashi, and Marcel Khalif. Christian Jarvi initiated the creation of more than a hundred new works.
