RT state Symphony orchestra#> under Alexander Sladkovsky in Kazan is a unique project for Russia: a concert of contemporary American symphonic music, which took place February 11, 2012 tnso attaches great importance to this project because the modern American academic art in Russia has unjustifiably given too little attention, however, this trend is of great interest to musicians and the public.
This evening, the orchestra is ready to present the premiere of William Grant still's African-American Symphony to the Kazan audience. This work will be performed in Russia for the first time. The composer's family warmly supported this idea and sent a welcome letter to the orchestra.
The evening program also includes a concert performance of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess and Bernstein's Overture to the Opera Candide.
Together with the state Symphony orchestra of Tatarstan, soloists from the USA < #solisty # Darnell Ishmel#> and conductor Marlon Daniel. The CD "Phoenix Forever" recorded with the participation of these musicians is a contender for the 2011 Grammy and NAACP awards, and was also nominated for the prestigious British gramophone award, awarded in the field of classical music. Soprano Alison Buchanan also performed in the concert.
The concert was held as part of the program" American seasons in Russia " under the auspices of the Bilateral Russian-American presidential Commission.
